Your North Star

The Finance Directors primary objective is to maintain the financial health and integrity of the company through rigorous accounting practices, internal controls, and compliance with relevant standards. In a SaaS context, this means ensuring accurate revenue recognition, managing audits, overseeing tax filings, and delivering reliable financial statements on time. The Finance Director safeguards the company’s fiscal operations while also building scalable processes as the business grows. Their North Star metrics revolve around accuracy, speed, and control, such as the number of days to close the books, audit readiness (including clean audit reports), and precision in revenue recognition for subscription revenue. By anchoring their work in these metrics, the Director ensures that financial reporting is trustworthy, audit processes are smooth, and regulatory risks are minimised.

Day In The Life Of The Finance Director

• Lead all accounting operations: general ledger, AR/AP, payroll, and fixed assets
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process
• Ensure compliance with relevant finance and taxation laws and manage internal controls
• Oversee subscription revenue recognition, billing accuracy, and deferred revenue
• Coordinate with external auditors and manage audit readiness
• Implement and maintain financial policies, controls, and procedures
• Oversee tax filings, compliance reports, and liaise with external advisors
• Leading cash flow management, treasury, and strategic finance
• Mentor and develop the accounting team; contribute to finance systems improvements
  
  

Key Skills

• 10+ years of experience in accounting/finance
• Strong knowledge of Dutch GAAP, IFRS & tax legislation
• Experienced with Belastingdienst processes
• Skilled in budgeting, forecasting & financial reporting
• Deep understanding of revenue recognition
• Experience managing audits and implementing financial controls
• Strong working knowledge of ERP and billing platforms
