Refuse Worker
Applications are being accepted for a full-time Refuse Worker. Hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Minimal overtime. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under immediate supervision, performs general unskilled manual labor in the collection of refuse and recycling and other City duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: An example of acceptable qualifications.
Completion of secondary education preferably with work experience in heavy manual labor.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (* Can be obtained after employment.)
Valid State of Ohio Class A or B commercial driver's license* and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES OF THE CLASSIFICATION: The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive.
Carries, lifts, and loads refuse and recyclables that meet City requirements from residential and commercial customers onto trucks; operates hoisting device that raises refuse bins and dumps contents into opening in truck body; operates truck controls to dump hoppers and compact trash; sorts recyclables into designated truck bins; drives truck as assigned on designated routes and to disposal site or recycling collection facility and empties truck; drives recycling truck standing up and on right side of cab; completes routes in designated time frames; tags refuse or recycling items to inform customers of problems, e.g., excess garbage, inclusion of items not permitted; manually picks up special collections, e.g., furniture, appliances, and participates in Fall clean-up; delivers hoppers and trash bins to customers; operates packer truck; responds professionally and courteously to inquiries and complaints from citizens.
Conducts inspections of assigned vehicles prior to the execution of daily tasks; performs preventive maintenance on equipment and minor maintenance and repairs; completes paperwork; refers defects or other needed repairs to supervisor; washes trucks, cleans and paints facility, equipment, hoppers, equipment storage areas, and other areas as required; mows grass and pulls weeds; picks up litter.
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions; demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; performs related duties as required.
